Not only does the ocean have the potential to provide food security, but it can provide critical minerals for the energy transition, species with biopharmaceutical and biotechnology potential, a source of income through sustainable tourism and innovation of renewable power technologies. “Ocean Exploration to Inform Climate Solutions and Conservation”: The ocean is a critical component of climate solutions. The goal, therefore, is to eat foods that support a microbiome that efficiently processes those foods to promote optimum health. In this program, Peter Turnbaugh, Ph.D., discusses how our gut microbes are the result of the foods we eat, and how our microbes further affect food digestion. In recent studies, mice who are genetically similar and eat the same foods can have a dramatic difference in weight, simply because their microbiomes are different.
